Bentley Calverley founded her eponymous art gallery, Bentley Gallery, in 1984. Taking on a small group of regional artists, she bought a small, jewel-like space in Scottsdale, Arizona and assembled a core of important artists, quickly building a curatorial reputation that’s respected in the national art landscape. Since then, exhibitions at Bentley Gallery in Scottsdale and Phoenix have ranged from Helen Frankenthaler’s bold abstractions and Pat Steir’s lush waterfall paintings, to Adolph Gottlieb’s historic Modernist works and John Sonsini’s straightforward portraits of Mexican day workers.

In 2004 in downtown Phoenix, Bentley Calverley opened an industrial warehouse gallery nearly twenty years later. Bentley Projects allowed for large and super large works of art such as Jennifer Bartlett’s house constructions, Jim Dine’s massive Venus de Milos, and Sir Anthony Caro’s steel sculptures to come alive in a space like no other in the Southwest. Our new space isn’t ready yet so we will be open by appointment only at our temporary location that is still in the Warehouse District.
